AHA & BJCP Sanctioned — Belgian Styles Only — Turn It Up

Welcome to Yeasty Boi’s, where the esters are wild, the phenols are funky,
and the only thing we’re sabotaging… is bland fermentation.

If it didn’t come from Belgium (or worship at the altar of Belgian yeast),
it’s not licensed to compete.

🍺 Accepted Styles

All Belgian styles from the BJCP 2021 guidelines are welcome:
Witbier, Saison, Belgian Pale, Belgian Blond/Single, Dubbel, Tripel, Belgian Dark Strong, Belgian Specialty, Abbey/Trappist styles, etc.

⚠️ About Specialty Categories (29–34)

If you’re entering a beer that requires a base style declaration (Fruit Beer, SHV, Wood-Aged, Experimental, etc.):

  • The base beer MUST be Belgian.
  • If the base beer is not Belgian, we’ll judge it…
…but it’s getting disqualified from medals faster than you can say “Brass Monkey.”

No Base ’Til Belgian.

The organizers may combine categories if needed,
but will keep things more organized than a remix of Paul’s Boutique samples.

Judging follows BJCP 2021, with at least one BJCP judge per flight.
Mini-BOS rounds will be used when appropriate.
Best of Show will crown the true Yeastie champion.

🙅‍♂️ Bottles will not be returned — they fought for their right to… ferment.

👓 Plain English Version

Belgian beers only.
Specialty beers must use a Belgian base style.
Non-Belgian bases are judged but can’t win.
Judging follows BJCP rules.
We may combine categories.
Bottles aren’t returned

Entry Acceptance Rules

🧾 Check Your Head Before You Wreck Your Entry

Each entry must be a capped or corked bottle with no identifying marks, including labels or embossing.
Printed caps are allowed but must be completely blacked out
we can’t have your bottle flexing its logo like it’s on the cover of Ill Communication.

Preferred Bottles

  • 12 oz brown glass (ideal)
  • Swing-tops & corked bottles accepted

Bottles will not be returned — they’re Intergalactic… but not coming back.

Complete entry forms must accompany all entries.
Be meticulous about listing special ingredients
failing to note them may sabotage your own score.

Brewers may enter multiple categories but only one entry per subcategory.

Entries must be made on home equipment using publicly available ingredients.
No commercial systems, no brew-on-premises setups,
no “my buddy at a brewery owed me a favor” situations.

👓 Plain English Version

Use unmarked bottles.
Brown 12oz preferred.
Forms must be complete.
List special ingredients.
One entry per substyle.
Brew it yourself at home.

Packing and Shipping

    ## 📦 **Packaging & Shipping Rules**

Fight For Your Right… To Ship Tight.

This is a shipped-only competition.
No walk-ins. No handoffs. No tossing cans like a reverse-Tibetan-monk-beer-delivery.

Delivery Deadline

All entries must be DELIVERED by:

Friday, April 3rd, 2026 — 5:00 PM

Not shipped by then — delivered by then.
Late entries will sleep… ’til Brooklyn.

📦 How To Pack (Root Down Your Bottles)

  • Use a sturdy box.
  • Line it with a plastic trash bag.
  • Partition & bubble-wrap each bottle (Bubble Wrap = Good. Overpacking = Bad).
  • Write on the box: “Fragile – This Side Up.”
  • Put each bottle label in a zip-top bag before attaching it to the bottle.
If something breaks, we want to know who’s leaking.

If breakage occurs, we’ll attempt to contact you for replacements — time permitting.

🚚 Shipping Requirements

  • Ship via UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.
  • You are responsible for timely delivery.
  • Damaged, late, or lost entries cannot be judged beyond what arrives intact.

So pack it tight, ship it right,

Awards

🏆 Awards Structure

Because You Gotta Fight For Your Right… To Medal

Once judging concludes, we’ll drop the virtual curtain and reveal the winners —
no stage lights, no smoke machines, but the Belgian funk will still be thick.

🥇 Medals

Judges will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category/table as appropriate.
Because this comp is all about quality, not participation trophies, judges may choose to withhold any medal level if entries don’t meet award-worthy standards.

Only beers that bring the noise and the yeast profile will earn that sweet bling.

👑 Best of Show (BOS)

All 1st place category winners advance to the Best of Show round.
The BOS panel will select one single, overall Best of Show beer
the true champion, the intergalactic Belgian phenolic phenom,
the one beer that makes the judges say:
“No Sleep ’Til… BELGIUM!”

There is only one BOS. No runner-up, no honorable mention, no tie-break rap battle.

🎁 Additional Prizes

This is a remote competition, so medals are the whole show —
no bonus swag, no door prizes, no “you must be present to win.”
(You can still play Paul’s Boutique at home if you want the ambience.)

📄 Score Sheets & Results

All score sheets will be posted directly to BCOEM once judging is finalized.
Nothing is mailed, nothing is handed off —
your results will appear online faster than a Beastie Boys sample clearance.

Results will be published on the competition site as soon as the awards are finalized.

👓 Plain English Version

  • Judges may award 1st/2nd/3rd, but may also withhold medals if entries don’t meet medal standards.
  • Only one Best of Show winner.
  • No additional prizes; remote competition only.
  • Score sheets and results will be posted on BCOEM.
  • Nothing is mailed or picked up in person.
