Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned, part of the Lonestar Circuit, and open to any amateur homebrewer.

Please read the rules carefully, as there are differences from past years.

This year we will be limiting the number of entries to 500 total entries, with a limit for individual brewer entries to 8 entries per brewer/team with a staggered entry period of 4 entries initially with an additional 4 entries a few days later. Brewers are limited to one entry per a subcategory.

Also, this year we will be accepting beer entries only. There will be no mead or cider as part of the competition this year, and no 34A clone beers. We apologize to those who specialize in mead and cider. It is our goal to build up our judging base to bring this back in the near future.

All shipped and drop-off entries must received at the shipping location by the entry deadline, Wednesday August 20th at 6:00 pm CST. - please allow for shipping time. Sorting will take place at a 10:00 am on August 23rd at a location to be determined and announced later. Entries may be dropped off after the deadline only at sorting day. If you have shipping issues or delays, please contact our admins for assistance.

Winners will not be announced until the award ceremony on October 18th. The website will update shortly after. Please also subscribe to our YouTube channel for any broadcast of the event and awards at YouTube.com/BayAreaMashtronauts.

Please submit 3 bottles per entry.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged. Shipping early may allow for notification of shipping damages so that a new entry can be supplied.

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry and provide a scoresheet with feedback. At least 1 certified BJCP judge will be assigned to each flight (more when possible).

The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in. Categories with less than 6 paid entries will be combined with a compatible category in order to comply with the Lone Star Circuit guidelines for points.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel with each of the gold medal winning beers (assuming a 3rd bottle is provided).

Awards

Lunar Rendezbrew will host an awards ceremony festival on October 18th from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. This will be a private event awards festival with beer, music, games, raffle, more beer, food, and some awesome awards taking place at the Pearland Lions Club 3350 S Main St, Pearland, TX 77581. The awards portion of the event will be broadcast live on the Mashtronauts YouTube channel that you can find at https://www.youtube.com/@BayAreaMashtronauts or go directly to the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpIRcih3UEU.

Please make sure you are subscribed to our channel and notified of updates to make sure you don’t miss the big event. Awards are planned for 4:30 pm CST. Due to legal requirements, this is a members only event. But don’t worry, you will be able to purchase a temporary club membership that allows you to attend this event if you are not currently a Mashtronaut! If you are planning to come from out of town, please reach out to the organizers for assistance with accomodations. There are multiple hotels by the afterparty location: Vallensons' Brewing Company.

Get your tickets here: https://buytickets.at/mashtronauts/1866226

Want to attend from out of town? We have hotel discounts available. Here is the link for more information: https://visitpearland.com/events/lunarrendezbrew31/

Medals will be provided to the top three entries in each medal group. All gold medal winners will also receive a custom tap handle. The competition will cover the cost of shipping within the United States. In the event an international participant wins, there may be additional costs for international shipping the awards. Unfortunately, this year we will no longer be able to provide a second medal to co-brewers. Due to the increased cost to provide these amazing new medals, we limted the order to 40 of each. By expanding to 39 medal categories, there will just not be enough left over to accomodate it this year.

***UPDATE: Due to category sizes, we only had to consolidate 2 (cat 31 and 34 into Table 31). However, we had some very large tables, and we had the extra medals, so we broke out some of them into extra medal tables to set a medal table limit of 24 beers to be judged. Extra tables will consist of 34 - LSX styles, 35 - 1C & 1D, 36 - 3C & 3D, 37 - 6B & 6C, 38 - 21B & 21C, 39 - 26B & 26D. Obviously, if we pulled these into their own category, the other subcats from the original category are the the table number associated with that style number. There are 2 scale up opportunity categories that were split due to size. For those, we will do both mini-bos rounds back to back. Then the brewery will pick the best of the 2 to win the scale up opportunity as the best of the style category.
