The Cowtown Yeast Wranglers are proud to host the 18th Annual CTYW Round-up from Feb 22nd-March 1st. The purpose of our competition is to promote homebrewing and beer appreciation.

COMPETITION RULES: Each beer entry needs to be registered on the competition website. If you have questions about registration, send them to Doug.

  1. Only one entry per beer style or BJCP subcategory. If there is more than one beer style in a BJCP category, you can enter one beer for each style. For example, individuals can only enter one beer in each style under BJCP Category 18 (Pale American Ale). This means individuals can enter a maximum of one entry each in Blonde Ale (18-A) and American Pale Ale (18-B). The only exception to this rule is category 27A Historical Beer, where we are allowing 2 entries in the category.

  2. If you are planning on entering a Fruit Beer, NEIPA, or British Brown Ale, please read this BJCP FAQ Bulletin regarding those styles.

  3. Entries are judged under the beer style/sub-category you specify on your registration form. Make sure you pick the right style! Complete style descriptions can be found online at http://www.bjcp.org/docs/2021_Guidelines_Beer.pdf

  4. All-grain brews, beer from kits, and extract methods are all welcome.

  5. All decisions by the competition organizers are final. Entries will be judged between the 22nd of February and March 1st 2026. Results will also be posted on our website shortly after the gala presentation.

Points are gathered as follows:

 Gold = 3 points

 Silver = 2 points

 Bronze = 1 point

  1. Competition entry limit is 450 entries. This may be raised by an additional 100 entries to 550 entries if there is strong interest and the competition sells out.

  2. The number of total entries per participant will start at 5 entries. The entry cap will be raised by 1 entry every 2 weeks until the competition limit of 450 is reached. This will typically occur on Monday morning 8:00 MST.

ENTRY GUIDELINES: The deadline for receiving entries and fee payment is 20:00 on Feb 20th, 2026.

 Submit TWO bottles of homebrewed beer per style. Bottles will not be returned.

 Each entry will consist of 300ml to 500ml capped bottles/cans or corked bottles that are void of ALL identifying information, including any writing or labels. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely. 341ml brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass or PET bottles will be accepted. Swing top bottles holding 500ml or less will likewise be accepted as well as corked bottles of the same size. 650ml bomber style bottles are not acceptable as they create issues with storing and stacking the beer.

To each bottle, attach a completed BJCP bottle entry label using a rubber band (tape, adhesives or glue are unacceptable. Bottles that still have commercial beer labels will be disqualified. Furthermore, BJCP labels that are taped or glued on to the bottles may also be disqualified. The BJCP labels are removed from the bottles when we sort the entries, and removing tape and adhesives is time consuming). BJCP labels, in pdf format, are available on the entry page on this site.

 The entry fee is $10 per entry. Fees can be paid by PayPal only as this allows the software to mark your entries as paid. Cash will be spent by the organizers to pay the bar tab and cheques will be used as coasters ;)

Entries may be dropped off or delivered to:

Entry Acceptance Rules

Number of Bottles Required Per Entry: 2

Each entry will consist of 300ml to 500ml capped bottles/cans or corked bottles that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.  341ml brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted. Swing top bottles holding 500ml or less will likewise be accepted as well as corked bottles of the same size. 650ml bomber style bottles are not acceptable as they do not fit in the milk crates that we must use to store and stack the beer.

Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.

Completed entry forms must be submitted with all entries, and can be printed directly from this website. Entry forms should be attached to bottles with a rubber band only; glue and/or tape are unacceptable.  Bottles that still have commercial beer labels will be disqualified.  Furthermore, BJCP labels that are taped or glued on to the bottles may also be disqualified.  The BJCP labels are removed from the bottles when we enter them in the system and picking off tape and glue would be excessively time consuming!

Please fill out the entry forms completely. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified per the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.  The more information the judges have about specialty beers, the better they are able to judge. There is no need to fill out and send the recipe section of the label entries nor do we require proof of payment as your PayPal payment. If you followed the process the software should mark you as paid and you can see that. If there is an issue send us an email as we get a copy of each PayPal transaction and can quickly remedy the situation.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.
